A special event in partnership with L.E.A.R.N. and CAMH, Artusiasm Gallery is hosting a book launch and art exhibition to help reduce stigma associated with mental illness through visual and non-visual art.
The event will be the release of a project undertaken by the L.E.A.R.N. clients, staff and volunteers. They have created a beautiful collection of short stories, poems, songs, speeches, photographs and visual art work all by the clients. This will be bound in a beautiful book that will be available for sale. Funds raised will go to supporting L.E.A.R.N. client programming/scholarship. The event will also be their 5th Coffee House ‘concert’ where the incredibly talented clients will be performing original songs, spoken word, speeches, and band performances by the L.E.A.R.N. Music Group.
This is an open call for artists to show creative expressions based on unique life experiences living with, and/or supporting those with mental illness and addiction, including the recovery experience.
The chosen theme "Shedding Light on the Shadow" is based on The Journey Of Recovery, and it is divided into three stages to be in sync with the book:
1. Chaos and Confusion
2. Hope and Support
Artists are free to interpret the theme in their own style and medium. The curators will review all submissions and decide on final artwork to be exhibited. Paintings, photography, drawings, mixed media, collage, prints etc. are acceptable.
