Art Exhibition Honouring Black History Month: From There to Now
Artusiasm Art Gallery hosts biweekly exhibitions. Starting February 9, the gallery is showcasing art to celebrate Black History, the legacies and cultural contributions. 30+ artists, 80+ pieces of art will be displayed. In addition the art on the wall, there will be handmade products, live music, spoken words and refreshments at the reception.
February is considered the Black History Month, which began as a way for remembering important people and events in the history of the African diaspora. Black History Month began as a week-long event in 1926 and eventually became a month-long celebration in 1976. Toronto is considered the first Canadian municipality to have officially recognized Black History Month, starting in 1979. The federal government officially recognized February as Black History Month in 1995.

About the Gallery: Artusiasm Art Gallery opened in Toronto last year (2017), a 1000 sq.ft. multi-configuration storefront space on St Clair West. The curator couple Tanzina and Carlos have built an ever-growing artist community that they fondly call the “Artusiasm family”. The gallery showcases original art by local artists, from seasoned professionals to emerging artists.
